Our culture hates talking about sexual violence. It's becoming less taboo, but the vast majority of people would really rather pretend it doesn't exist.
Sexual violence is overwhelmingly seen as a male-hurting-female issue. There's been a push over the past decade or so to recognize that women are not the only victims -- men are, too.
In other words, sexual violence is a male-hurting-others issue.
I encourage you to break the taboo surrounding sexual violence. It's not a male-hurting-others issue. Females can be perpetrators, too.
It seems the two greatest taboos are females-hurting-men and females-hurting-females. In other words, a female-hurting-others issue.
It happens. It's not all that rare, though you may think so. It's just very, very secret.
And I know women who go their whole lives saying they were hurt by men, when in fact they were hurt by women and are just too ashamed to admit it.
(No pity, no shame, no silence. You are not to blame for someone else's actions.)
